All the major drum companies have heavy duty and pricey top of the line models, some with backrests. If you like this conventional round or saddle type foldable leg style than go that route. But really check out the height and locking mechanism to be sure it feels very solid. The goal is to have a rock solid throne that locks securely once adjusted and stays put. A slightly wobbly seat after year or two of use is not fun. Ask your local dealer if there is a trial period with a refund or upgrade policy. It you are considering a backrest model also check for high quality, stable adjustment and locking mechanism. Years ago I got very frustrated with many models of low to mid priced three-leg collapsible stools not being 100% stable. Even a big name drum expensive throne was also purchased only to become wobbly. For about $40 to $60 you can have a really stable, portable and adjustable keyboard bench, or keyboard throne as drummers would probably call them. These X-Frame type seats can equal or surpass many high end drum stools at huge savings! Even the smaller, version with thick foam gets the job done, just not quite as comfortably. These will still beat a cheap to medium priced drum stool for stability and comfort. The only trade-off is limited height range from low to medium. Many drummer's however sit at these low to mid seating positions. At six feet tall the On Stage Stands model I use works great set in the lowest position. Make certain it has the range you need. If you think about it, your seat when set at a comfortable height for your legs, should dictate how your drums should be set up. In other words, set the drum set up to your comfortable seating position, not the other way around. It's worth a try to see if you like the rectangular seat compared to the round or saddle style drum stools. Plus there's enough extra room on the seat to have your date sit next to you while you play! The large models are bulkier to carry but still portable really no big deal. This article is not meant to imply that traditional drum stools or thrones are not capable and comfortable. Just remember to inspect the build quality closely before spending the big bucks for your ultimate "drummer's chair". Try to avoid the real cheap stuff. The major names like Yamaha, DW, Gibraltar, Tama, Ludwig, Rock-n-Sock, Sonor, etc. would be good bets for solid build quality traditional model thrones.
Good Luck!
